2004 Mercedes W168 A Class A140 MANUAL!!!

2004 Mercedes W168 A Class A140 MANUAL!!!

The car is being auctioned on EBay here: EBay Auction

Very low mileage Good Condition Low Insurance Very Economical. NO RESERVE !

Introduction

We bought this car just over a year ago for our twin son and daughter to learn to drive in.

However, they showed no real interest, have now gone off to university and therefore won't be able to afford to own a car now anyway.

Coupled to this, between my wife and I we own 6 other cars. We are in the process of moving imminently and so will be losing our garaging space.

Whilst we would like to keep this car as a good ultility/runaround we need to rationalise the number of cars we have and so reluctantly have to sell the Mercedes A140.

This car is in generally very good condition having covered only 45K miles from new!

Prior to us buying it last year from a car-dealer (who used it briefly himself and had it registered to him) it had been owned sequentially by a mother and then her daughter.

It is MOT'd until the end of April 2017

It has 9 Services stamped in the Service Book

The car has done very little mileage within our ownership.

ENGINE

  • 1.4L engine - Cheap to run and insure
  • No oil or coolant leaks or loss
  • Very clean engine bay

    GEARBOX

  • 5-Speed MANUAL
  • There is a reason that I have capitalised the word "MANUAL" in the title and here:

Being a manual version it is not going to suffer the all too common automatic gearbox problem and dreaded "F" gearbox failure.

This is a well-known, very common and documented issue with the automatic versions of this car. Google it if needs be.

This problem is often effectively terminal for the car, as repair costs are often beyond making it economically viable.

Having owned an automatic one previously, ask me how I know!

    BODYWORK

  • Generally, a very clean and presentable car.
  • No nasty dents or swirls..not even supermarket car-park dinks!

It is however not a new car and so does the odd small mark and a a small amount of bubbling in the places shown in the photos that I have added a link to.

Additionally, the is a light scrape (not caused by us!) on the offside front wheel-arch which has been touched-in. The front wings on these cars are plastic so that scrape won't rust.

  • All other exterior trim is good.
  • New number plates
  • New Bosch wiper blades front and back.

    INTERIOR

  • This is very clean and unworn. Even the driver's seat side bolster has no wear, tears or snags in the cloth upholestery.
  • There is a CLARION Radio/CD player fitted which actually sounds ok through the 4 standard Mercedes speakers
  • The air-conditioning works perfectly...as does everything else on the car!

    WHEELS and TYRES

  • Standard Mercedes 15" steel wheels with hubcap covers. There are a few marks/scuffs on these hubcap covers - mainly the driver's side front (see photos).
  • It has 4 matching tyres - albeit a budget brand...but it's not performance car.
  • The tyres have near new tread (8mm is normal for new). I have measured the fronts at just under 7mm and the rears at just under 8mm!

    SUMMARY

This a good example of the W168 A-Class model.

It would make an ideal first car. It has front AND side airbags unlike many smaller cars that young drivers are forced to venture out in due to high insurance costs and was a prime consideration in me selecting this model for our children to potentially use.

These cars are very versatile in terms of their load carrying options/capacity (please see photos) - almost like a mini van.

So all in all, a good, economical runaround car.

I am a car enthusiast and a member of both the BMW (for nearly 35 years now!) and Mercedes-Benz Clubs. I try to look after my cars well and do not abuse them.

I have uploaded many more photos to my website (which I run as part of my car hobby...I am not a car dealer. My interest is mainly BMWs hence the URL!)
